The project focuses on the upstream stage of project origination — the early phase when countries identify priority climate investment needs, assess readiness, explore possible technical and financing solutions, and begin shaping project concepts for future readiness or preparatory funding.
Through this process, the project aims to help countries move from broad climate priorities toward more structured, investment-oriented concept notes that can be considered for further project preparation support.
As shown in the infographics of the project cycle below, CIP-Readiness works across four sequential stages, each designed to build on the previous one. Together, they take partner countries from an initial assessment of their readiness all the way to a government-endorsed project concept note ready for the next stage of financing support.
