Glasgow, November 8, 2021 – During COP26 in Glasgow, the GGGI Uzbekistan team was pleased to participate in a high-level side event entitled Upscaling Green Climate Financing and Green ODA for Climate Action and Green Recovery of developing countries.

“The world is facing a food-waste crisis. It is estimated that 931 million tonnes of food were wasted by households, retailers, restaurants and other food services in 2019. Around 61% of this waste occurs within households” – says the latest UNEP report Reducing Consumer Food Waste Using Green and Digital Technologies.

GO4SDGs and The Yield Lab Institute launched The Sustainable AgTech Challenge in Latin America and the Caribbean for innovations and startups with products, services and/or technologies that are contributing to fight the causes and impacts of climate change, thus  creating more regenerative, sustainable and inclusive agrifood systems.

The I-GO initiative implemented in collaboration with GO4SDGS – to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to scale up resource efficiency – is rolling out three regions Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, and Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia.

Fiscal incentives are a powerful lever to drive decarbonization – or to retard it. As a first step to align fiscal with decarbonization and other environmental policy goals, governments need to understand the incentives created by their current system. To that end, the government of Costa Rica has been working to develop a methodology for classifying tax expenditure by its environmental impact.

The project aims to contribute to the following SDGs: SDG target 12.3 (halving food waste), SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), SDG 12 (Sustainable Consumption and Production), SDG 13 (Climate Action) and SDG 17 (Partnerships).

The I-GO initiative is piloting its deployment in the Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia (EECCA) region through the United Nations Development Account (UNDA) Sustainable Public Procurement (SPP) project to help small and medium-sized (SME) improve their market opportunities.
