The governments of Australia, Botswana, Canada, Peru, and the United States are proud to have founded the Energy Resource Governance Initiative (ERGI) with the goal of sourcing and disseminating best practices across the international mining sector. Though their mining sectors have evolved in dramatically different ways, the five founding members of ERGI all have robust mining economies that reflect global best practices.
The Intergovernmental Forum on Mining, Minerals, Metals and Sustainable Development (IGF) supports its more than 80 member countries in advancing their sustainable development goals through effective laws, policies, and regulations for the mining sector.
We help governments take action to develop inclusive and gender-equitable practices, optimize financial benefits, support livelihoods, and safeguard the environment. Our work covers the full mining life cycle, from exploration to mine closure, and projects of all sizes, from artisanal mining to large-scale operations.
With power, risk, and opportunity concentrating in Asia, we tackle those critical issues that America’s leaders need to understand—because the decisions they make matter and the stakes are high. As the nation’s Asia policy think tank, we envision a future that is free, open, secure, and prosperous for all.
GAO provides Congress, the heads of executive agencies, and the public with timely, fact-based, non-partisan information that can be used to improve government and save taxpayers billions of dollars.
Our work is done at the request of congressional committees or subcommittees or is statutorily required by public laws or committee reports, per our Congressional Protocols.
