The Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (CAREC) commits to promote new ecosystem services approaches in Central Asian countries. by providing expertise, consultations and capacity building activities for relevant national and regional partners in order to promote sustainable use of natural resources, ecosystems and its services. The commitment will result in the broad acceptance and implementation of ecosystem services, its value, and the methods of ecosystem services valuation in all sectors of the economy. This will contribute to the economic and sustainable use of natural resources by each country.
The commitment falls under focus area 1, 4, and 8 of the Batumi Initiative to improve the measurement and valuation of natural capital; shift consumer behaviours towards sustainable consumption patterns; and improve access to services, healthy living and well-being.
Implementing partners will include national partners including state statistic committees, ministries of economy, and ministries of environmental protection.
The commitment is relevant to SDGs 14 and 15.
